We try to run a Climbing badge camp every couple of years, due to authorisation problems however this was the first one since 2006, a big thank you to Dave Mason (Link) for putting in the time to get his qualification
We camped at Barnswood campsite, between Macclesfield and Leek, arriving at around 8:45 the tents were up in a quick time and the camp was set for a great weekend. Unlike earlier in the year we awoke on the Saturday morning to bright sunshine and a decent temperature, which just got better throughout the day.
After breakfast and washing up we had a go on the Low Ropes course, only one injury and that was (as normal) a leader, this time however it was before we even started the course
Lunch was a basic ploughmans with soup then straight into the afternoons activities of tracking, training on putting on a climbing harness correctly and roping up, and collecting wood for the campfire. We also played a game of Baseball/Rounders
Saturday tea was spagetti bolagnaise cooked from scratch by the patrols and very tasty, In the evening we had a wide game follwed by a campfire
Sunday morning brought a new feature to 3HG troop camping with the leaders cooking breakfast whilst the scouts took the tents down and generally dismantled the site. After a meal of Frosted flakes, Sausage, Bacon and Beans (more than we could eat) it was time to finish droping the site and head off to Windgather Rocks (near Whaley Bridge) for some climbing.
With a small amount of time lost when DJ took a wrong turn and we had to de-hitch the trailer to turn round we made it to Windgather, Where Link and Ibecks had already set up the climbs for us.
From here it was a afternoon of climbing with a 'build your own wrap' buffet available for lunch. A great weekend had by all.
