SCOUTING AT 3rd HAZEL GROVE 1963/4

Six clips taken from the 8mm film collection of Aart Cornelissen (Skip) who was the Senior Scout Leader at 3rd Hazel Grove Scout Group circa 1963/4. This period was a critical stage in the development of the Group as it concluded with the opening of its self build Scout Headquarters which took place in October 1964. In 1974 the Headquarters were extended and both phases still provide excellent facilities for a thriving and active scout community.

Clip 1: The Senior Scout Unit camping in the Llanberis Pass North Wales, including walking and climbing in Snowdonia

Clip 2: Continues with the Snowdonia trip and then features a camp with 1st Norbury Senior Scout Unit at Kettleshulme in Derbyshire.

Clip 3: Continues with the Kettleshulme camp and then covers a walk from Marsden near Huddersfield to Edale Derbyshire. This walk was to become a classic event for the Group for many years. e.g. 2007

Clip 4: Continues with the Marsden/Edale walk and then shows the opening of the new Headquarters ceremony in October 1964. It starts with the arrival of the dignitaries and an inspection by Hubert Green the County Commissioner and ushered around by our Assistant Senior Scout Leader Frank Cherry (Stahl) Pat Tapp (Akela) and Eric Ingham (Pez) are with the cub and scout sections respectively.

Clip 5: Continues with the opening ceremony with Peter Wood breaking the flag, various speeches including Wilf Connor the Group Chairman, Brian Tapp the Scout Leader. Denis Kirby and Eric Pownall are shown receiving special awards in thanks for their work on the project

Clip 6: Continues with the opening ceremony. The bun fight commences, the dignitaries depart and flag is lowered.
